Tesla Needs HR Support Too

A judge just cleared the way for a jury to decide if race-based harassment was allowed by Tesla at a California factory. The state sued Tesla, alleging “Black and/or African American workers” at the factory were subjected to daily harassment and more discipline.

Here is the kicker: the state investigation found the HR department was “under-staffed and inadequately trained.” As of 2020, Tesla had about 1 HR officer to 740 workers. According to SHRM, that ratio is 1.98 per 100 employees nationwide. In addition to this lawsuit, Tesla has had several claims including the loss of a jury trial. Even Tesla is learning HR cannot be an afterthought.
